People here shit on outlets like them and Jacobin but the reality is it’s slim pickings for the left in this arena and they deserve critical support.
John Brown lost, that was wrong. He should have won. By not killing every single slaver and freeing every slave he left the job unfinished.
NO I will not read theory, it’s not my job to spend years interpreting the arcane and obtuse writings of leftist canon. Anything truly worth saying can be said in a few pages in simple language.
Except when your entire existence is inculcated with and literally defined by a system that prevents you from being able to conceive of a more humane society and economic framework because capitalist realism. Reading a little theory can help to pry open the welded shut noggins.
And it helps to bring people to the left. Not just because you’ve read a book or some literature but you’ve engaged with the material and apply to people’s real life. That’s why I’m starting to read more.
It also helps with the confidence issue. I can’t imagine discussing politics with only the knowledge I could glean from a group of people that also heard it third hand.
