The nefarious part is how he dismisses criticisms about paid interests by writing it off as some sinister figure didn’t put a suitcase of money on his desk and ask him for quid pro quo. Of course not. That’s not how it works most of the time. How it does work is he had interests and benefactors that benefited from his presidency. He knew who those people were. And his administration scratched their back. Trying to reduce criticisms about corruption to some caricature is fucking dishonest as shit and of course that’s the route he went. They all do that shit. They sit around in multi-million dollar apartments, their kids go to prestigious private schools and ivy league universities. They get paid more to speak for an hour than most of the country makes in two years. Yet they have no idea how any of that happened, they just know it wasn’t some sort of system of corruption and influence.
If he had congress for the entire eight years it would be a bundle of different excuses and they would have still blamed Joe Lieberman. That’s the fun of moderates. They can still always blame the moderate democrats for everything.
