This put a lot of things into words that I have been trying to say. I moved from group 1 to group two a while before r/chapo was banned. It’s hard to be here every day and keep your head up. I’ve started to use this more like I used to use reddit, I go directly to the community rather than skimming main. I still skim main, but I go to the communities first because that’s where I find the comradery.
doomposting just feels like emotional abuse at this point. We need a doomer community.
I can agree with this. I love working on the site and I’m passionate about where we can go, but at the moment a lot of the content and comments just feel… defeatist anda might bit nieave.
We absolutely have a large base of power users who post most of the threads. before I tweaked the spam flags to be less sensitive we would get warnings about the same 20 or so people posting 3-4 threads in 5 minutes. there are a number of users who in my opinion don’t really think through what they are saying and end up with bad takes that sound ok at first glance.
The other thing is I think there are two distinct groups of genral users here. people who come here to vent and feel comfortable, and people who come here looking for comrads fighing to make the world better. Both are valid but the different purposes can have friction when one assums motivations.
This community will die if all it does is continue to talk about only politics. We’re a separate site now, we should be trying to just set up a more generalized forum like the internet had tons of in the mid aughts
