Yeah pretty normal. I’ve tried to finish Lain a few times. I like it but for whatever reason just never finish it. Not an anime but I also stopped watching The Wire a few times before I finished it.
Not all anime related as such but i’ve basically dumped most of my TV shows since 2016. Just find the current aesthetics driving the industry tiring. Don’t really need more dark, bleak dystopia, I can look outside or turn on the news and see that shit.
Started picking up slice of life anime shows like Yurucamp, comedy like one punch man and some Isekai shows as they are not all doom and gloom. Even then I gave deca-dence a chance but found it less and less interesting and finally dropped it. Did watch the first season of The Misfit of demon king academy, though the season ending was meh.
yes
Yup. I’m super weird in that sometimes I’ll watch a show until the last 2-3 episodes then drop it, but that’s mostly cause I get really bored if I can see the ending coming and there’s not a big cathartic payoff. But usually I’ll drop a show mid-way because I got bored, time-constraints, etc.
Like probably the three months I hated anime the most were the three months I decided to try my hand at being an ani-blogger/reviewer and forced myself to watch every single show airing weekly till completion. If not for Ping-Pong the animation and JoJo, I might have devolved into a giant blobby mass like Kaneda at the end of Akira.
Deca Dence definitely isn’t the greatest thing ever, but it is fun and its themes were clearly pandering to leftists in an unusually blunt way.
I see the industry in tiers:
Industry changing – This content goes on to have an effect on the industry decades later.
Great seasonal content – This content is good stuff, not industry changing but worth watching (Deca Dence goes here).
Ok seasonal filler – This content is alright if you’ve got nothing else to watch. A lot of seasonal shounen and comedy fits in this box.
Trash – Everything else.
Trash that you like anyway – It’s trash but you like it despite knowing it’s trash. Fairy Tail goes here for me. Guilty pleasure despite being problematic, badly written and generally ridiculous. It is like fast food to me though.
It is legitimately just background noise… I think it must tap into something from when I was younger, I love that “winning with the power of friendship” and Fairy Tail is just that over and over and over again.
It is trash. I know it’s really bad. I still like it and I have Happy and Carla as little teddybear toys XD. I know my taste is usually pretty reasonable but there’s just something about it that makes me very happy despite how bad it is!
