In Australia today it’s the biggest horse race of the year, basically everyone leaves work and goes to bars to watch these poor animals be forced to race for their entertainment. Also on average a horse dies every year (and that’s just in this one race).

Yeah, and even if the animal someone manages to survive the race and ‘retire’, they’re left with a lifetime of pain from injuries caused by being forced to run, as well as psychological issues from being confined / kept solitary for a large portion of their life which sucks for a pack animal.
