I get the cynicism here, but have none of you ever known a kid to get obsessed with some random shit? They just do that sometimes, it doesn’t mean anything.

This. It’s literally “who gives a shit,” for me. Kid likes Target and/or asked for a Target themed birthday (or a Birthday party there), parents did work in bringing that to “life.” Whatever, I can’t be angry about it.

When I was a kid I loved going to Venture (basically a target that isn’t around anymore). They had giant bags of popcorn and my mom would always buy me one. I used to climb through the clothes racks like they were a jungle. There were toys and video games and shit. Not gonna lie, I kinda get why this kid wanted a target themed party. It’s still weird that it’s a corporate logo and all that but kids probably aren’t thinking of it in a capitalist sense.

Kids will latch onto the strangest things. My little sister forced me to buy her a hoover for her birthday and she was absolutely obsessed with it for over a year. She loved it more than anything - - and no one told my sister to hoover up or anything. She loved it entirely of her own weird accord (part of why I kind of love her for being so uniquely odd).

I can see a weird kid being obsessed with Target and thinking it’s brilliant.

I got my first paycheque for writing and so I took her shopping when I was looking after her and told her she could have anything as it was her birthday, thinking I’m gonna be buying a bunch of MLP toys or a Nintendo Switch or a bunch of books… Nope she make me buy her a hoover. She was so excited for it as well.

Kids are strange and will attach themselves to weird things. My niece was, at the age of this kid, obsessed with the color yellow. Anything they could get, they wanted it in yellow. When asked what kind of birthday party they wanted, they said “A yellow birthday party.” My sibling then had to figure out how to make that happen.

Prolly could just be a completely brainwashed employee. I’ve spent most of my working life in warehouses, where everyone up and down understands how shitty it is, except for one stint working for an airline, and one stint at a well known retail chain. I met employees at both jobs that had completely bought into the bullshit about “company culture” to basically a religious level. I’m talking to the extent of buying company gear for their pets and shit.

4th Birthday! 4th!

You’re not doing this for your child, you’re doing this for yourself. Probably some aspiring influencer after the #ad revenue.
