Like we all knew it was going to happen, but legitimately I’m pretty concerned about the next step here from the US.

Most of the poors, myself included, are poorer and more mentally fatigued than ever before in recent memory. It has vibes of '08 but mixed with a literal murderer living in your fellow people’s airways the whole situation is absolutely horrifying.

Obviously senate is deadlocked while they’re butthurt about the elections, that was always going to happen. Hopefully the GA runoff is a democrat win? I guess? Will they be able to push a stimulus bill through if that happens? Will they want to?

I don’t really understand what is happening anymore, I’m pretty terrified in my day to day like I was back at the beginning of this. The city I’m in is getting more cases than ever before. Nothing has changed and has, in fact, gotten worse.

The complacency that this election has created in the liberals feels malicious and borderline sadistic.

I guess I’m just posting wondering what you all have to say about the next coming months. I’m pretty worried.

Edit: I want to add that, at this point, I can barely remember who I was before this agoraphobia that was forced onto me was in place.

I remember going to bars and hanging out with friends. I remember casually going to the store and just walking around. I remember being excited to visit friends and family whenever i had the chance.

Fuck. I remember being creative. Making music and writing. That’s gone too and replaced by alternating panic and a deep, unrelenting sadness.

Why am I just sitting in this apartment, scared and confused, with the weeks passing by in instants? What the fuck are we waiting for? How much of our lives will continue to be stolen?

The complacency that this election has created in the liberals feels malicious and borderline sadistic.

Repeating this point for emphasis: almost as soon as the data came in showing that covid hurt the working class (especially the Black working class) worse than them - an entirely predictable outcome given the rationing of healthcare accessibility on the basis of pricing and income, and medical racism, not to mention the bailouts that mostly went to the wealthy while many working people had their stimulus checks eaten by their landlord or by the bank that owns their house - the ruling class stopped giving a shit, completely tossing out the “we’re all in this together” message (which was obviously never fucking true) and convincing the libs everything was gonna be fine so long as they kept wearing masks, practiced social distancing, and continued “supporting the economy” as we moved into “phase 3”. That’s what lies at the root of this complacency.

Their whole position on this has been to tell us the urgency of the situation and that the republicans are the ones who are hurting you with their denial.

Yet these privileged fucks aren’t doing anything either. It comes across as “yeah of course it’s dangerous out there. So what? Go fuck yourself and get back to work. We can just replace you when you drop dead.”

It’s amazing that they have made themselves somehow more unempathetic than republicans. At least parts of the republican base have the fallback of ignorance for their inaction and denial. The democrats just revel in our suffering.

At least they acknowledge it? Sort of? Lmao

Dems are going to turn the COVID conversation into one about personal responsibility when it don’t improve under Biden. They’ll be yelling at people “well, if you don’t wear a mask then you deserve to catch it! The people getting it are STOOOOOOOOOOPID cause they don’t wear masks!”

You’re not wrong. They have proposed nothing besides blaming Republicans. They’ll find a way to blame the victims.

It’s really rough to deal with.

My innate reaction to this stuff is “don’t be an alarmist” but every day the reality of this worsening situation just puts that to bed. It’s weird facing an event like this. Seeing the mortality of your society.

Solidarity. I hope you the best.

I suspect I might have gotten it way back in January or February but am still deathly terrified of spreading it or getting a different strain and then spreading that.

Dems are pretty much doing everything in their power to fuck up the runoff election in Georgia, so we can write that one off.

I have not been keeping up at all, but this seems in character.

I’m in NC and the pathetic excuse for a campaign Cunningham ran felt like a satire

Running absolute losers as candidates. Candidates that are actively running against universal healthcare during a pandemic.

we’re going to end up with probably half a million dead by the new year

I’ve got a feeling/fear that Thanksgiving is going to kick things into a truly horrific place. Anecdotally, a friend-of-a-friend was telling me that Seattle airport is seeing flight bookings comparable to 2019 for Thanksgiving. Obviously that’s a word-of-mouth rumor, but there’s been press coverage about stronger than expected demand and United are adding 1400 flights for Thanksgiving week. West coast states issued a travel advisory today, but I don’t think it has any teeth whatsoever. My hunch is that people will only realize the insanity of flying at a time like this when they reach the airport…

I guess it’s good to accept how bad it truly is about to become. That’ll take work on my part, as most of the anxiety comes from just how little control I have to increase my own welfare during this.

Climate change feels like this as well, just in slow motion with higher stakes.

But all of this pandemic garbage just happened so fast.

A common denominator I’ve noticed between the covid crisis and the climate crisis: the denialism from the more openly reactionary liberals and the soft denialism from the center-right libs (acknowledging the problem exists but only adopting insufficient token solutions). The covid response in the US is like a time-condensed version of what we’ve seen so far in terms of climate policy, and what’s still to come.

Through this lens, covid has given us a preview of what the liberal response to further ecological collapse might look like: continuing to browbeat people into pretending everything is “normal” while the death count keeps piling up and the situation gets increasingly exponentially out of control.

Side note: I credit the use of the term “soft denialism” in this sense to Howie Hawkins, he’s used that to characterize the lib approach and it’s just too good not to use.

Yeah I was/am a hypochondriac well before this whole situation and it’s gotten hilariously out of control from this.

Solidarity is all I got. Fuck all this shit.
