Can’t quite put my finger on it.
I watch that show. Its predicated on that old school aristocracy vibe that the UK likes to cling to.
Its charming, but dry. Its not very diverse, both in contestants and in food choices. I know it’s a competition, but a lot of the deserts are complicated for the sake of being complicated, and I get the feeling that most of those british pastries and cakes were largely designed to be a huge pain in the ass for the staff that has to prepare them for all the inbred lords and ladies that consume them while they talk about how they’re going to carve up the world amongst themselves.
Maybe I’ve seen too many episodes of Downton Abbey
It’s the British people
It’s the British people. The British people are the off putting part, specifically the hosts who I’m pretty sure are gormless Tories
I’ve been watching it for years with my wife, I enjoy the contestant commordarie but realize its probably scripted. I count it as a guilty pleasure along with masterchef, chopped, american ninja warrior, and a few of the Netflix reality show competitions.
In part because in a society free from capitalism I would totally watch people passionate about something compete with themselves and others to better themselves.
Like I didnt really care much about glass blowing until I saw a competition show and it really impressed me.
The fake editing shit to create drama can fuck off, seems most American reality shows have that.
Paul Hollywood creeps me the fuck out
