Belief that spits the Church might be Schismatic, but isn’t automatically heretical.
A diversity of opinion on things is allowed in the church, provided it doesn’t go against official doctrine. For instance the Catholic Church has expressed a dislike of Teilhard De Chardin’s views, but they’re not heresy.
Saying the Pope outright isn’t Catholic is possibly Heretical, but definitely Schismatic. Being Eastern Orthodox isn’t heretical (as of a decade or so ago.) but is Schismatic.
Here’s the thing. Not a word of catholic doctrine has changed between Benadict and Francis. Francis isn’t a progressive, he’s a spin-doctor. He understands that the Catholic Church’s image has taken a huge beating and requires rehabilitation, so he likes to talk about the more pleasant aspects of catholic theology. He knows exactly what he’s doing, it’s clear from the way he consistently dodges direct questions.
Right here, he’s being extremely selective in his representation of the Catholic Church’s stance on homosexuals . They absolutely still believe is that gay sex is a sin. So with that in mind, we can assemble a list of Catholic-approved life arrangements for homosexuals. The first option is lifelong celibacy. But not in the priesthood, you would have to lie about it to get in. The other option is to pretend to be straight and consummate a passionless heterosexual marriage.
…Those are the only two options, actually. So yes, they have the right to be in a family. Just not one where they can ever have an intimate partner.
Thank you! The media is incredibly reckless in how they report on Francis. They pick out just the right parts to make for a good headline, but when you dig into what Francis is actually saying and ignore the weasel words, you can see that he doesn’t deviate much at all from standard catholic doctrine.
Weird. I said it and I will say it again: Francis was EXTREMELY reactionary as a bishop. Don’t know HOW he changed, but it is welcomed nontheless
