Are German politicians as cucked as those in my country who thinks we should be grateful about the US empire “protecting us”?

Our government consists of the conservative party and the socdems (read: our version of Blairites, yes the party that killed Rosa). Their angle on this is that they want Americans to stay not for protection, but because the regions in which US bases are make their money mostly by selling overpriced shit to the soldiers, and the regions would be significantly hurt without the soldiers.

They still want the troops here though, so it really doesn’t make a difference

They usually are. German politics is dominated by the slowest, most phlegmatic conservatives in the world, so they still have no idea what to do without NATO even though the Cold War has been over for 30 years now. But the vast majority of the people here don’t want to wage America’s wars, so our government is in constant denial about the wars we’re involved in and they hardly get covered in the press at all.

They’ve even tried to censor leaked reports about the state of the war in Afghanistan by claiming that they are copyright protected. And they got away with it to at least some degree. The Afghanistan war is still not officially referred to as a war here, but as “our mission in Afghanistan” or some shit like that if it even comes up at all. Merkel once held a speech where she openly admitted that she’s completely ignoring the will of the people when it comes to foreign policy and presented that as a good thing. Because it takes time to convince the ignorant masses how important it is to be America’s murder assistant. I mean, she didn’t say it like that, she said it nicer, but that’s the gist of it.

BTW, if you adress any of this publicly, people toeing the party line will call you a Putin loving chud. The brain worms burrow deeply here.

We also would’ve been in Iraq had she been chancellor at that time.

She also wants to get armed drones before the next election. The unarmed version has already been used in Mali, and has flown at least one mission in Niger even though we’re not at war with them. She’s literally copying US drone strike policy.

Dick Cheney said the exact same thing when asked about low approval ratings for the war by 2007.

Populist chuds will be surprisingly open to these positions, although i can’t shake the suspicion that some of them are just anti-US because it clashes with their idealist fixation on sovereignty. On the left, there’s a very broad pacifist consensus among SocDems, Greens, and Leftists, but for the SPD and the Greens that consensus doesn’t extend beyond the party base - the SPD has actually turned down coalitions with the leftists twice because they’re openly anti-imperialist.

The only real support comes from ideologically entrenched centrists and from economic stakeholders, who want to export arms (a major industry in Germany), get cheap ressources, or control trade routes. There are people here who profiteer off US imperialism a lot, and as usual, they won’t let go of their investments.

OK, so this might sound weird but I’m looking to immigrate from my country and applying for a master’s abroad. How is the climate for incoming immigrants in germany rn and how is the job market for IT professionals?

Job markets are tricky atm due to oncoming Covid recession, but IT is generally sought after. I have no idea how to apply for work visa, but i’ve heard it’s buerocratic and complicated and from all my encounters with our government, i’d actually be surprised if it wasn’t a kafkaesque nightmare.

Climate for immigrants depends a lot on where exactly you end up and if you’re visibly part of a minority - Berlin is extremely cosmopolitic, places like Cologne or Hamburg are as well, but some rural areas can get nasty, or just outright bizarre from what i’ve seen when hanging around there with black or brown people.

No, they think Putin still wants to do that. I mean, the majority of the people here don’t believe that nonsense, but if you’re our equivalent of a blue check neolib, you will actually yell that at people who bully you on the internet for being an imperialist dork.

Americans: wow, these foreigners are so ungrateful for the protection our troops provide them, we might as well leave and see how they like it!

Also Americans:

So Congress is there to block the troops from coming home & they have given full power to the executive branch to deploy troops whenever they want.

I look forward to the day every dwelling in the world has their own local US marine stationed there and half of the world’s productivity goes just towards maintaining that - while we are all cooked alive, the anthem blaring from public loudspeakers until the end of time
