why is paying your staff scammy? like, dude had no campaign strategy that made any sense and the people who donated to him got scammed in that sense. but the part where he paid his campaign staff a fair wage before sinking all the money into ads is the part we should be praising him for. it means he’s not an abusive, piece of shit boss.
imagine saying this about literally any other group of workers. “uhh actually, you need to have other sources of income in order to take this job”
edit: look, I hate opportunists and careerists as much as the next gal but if you attack him for paying his workers, you’re ensuring that the only people who will work on campaigns are opportunists and careerists.
Paying staff isn’t wrong, but I think being volunteer-based would be perfectly forgiveable for such a small team.
If there’s no money for campaigning, then what was the point to begin with? Like, if you have a campaign and you can afford it, pay your staff a good wage, but he didn’t have a campaign.
I use the term grifter rarely, but this smells of it.
I really don’t think it was a grift as much as the local dems taking away his access to the voter file a few months back screwed him over.
He didn’t even have the ability to textbank and what not.
Not sure who was grifting more, Josh or his campaign staff. Did nobody think to put out some ads?
Back when we had 150k subs on r/cth, we probably could’ve had an audit committee or something. Get the cth endorsements w/e. At the same time, if a person was running a legitimate campaign, I would expect them to take some money somehow to pay for survival so they could actually campaign (and not work).
