Back when HK was a “democracy” (aka a colony of the UK) they had the walled city which was the inspiration for the dystopian city in Blade Runner.
I think as Shenzhen starts to overtake HK as the main center of economic gravity for that region, many ordinary young people will emigrate there for work and more affordable housing.
