Capitalism feels super icky once you bring profit motive into this ‘creating vaccines that will prevent thousands from drowning in their own pus’ business. Or is it just me?
About average for flu vaccines
Tbh 80 percent implies that what, 75 percent of population has to vaccinate? Assuming 60 percent required for herd immunity, which is wildly optimistic without masks. That shit will probably propagate like flu forever:(
Yeah, if you check the fauci threads from the other day about him moving the goalposts (NY Times own words) on public information relating to the virus, you will see that they are now saying we will need 70-90 and that even that may change. (I am not even sure if this statement was accounting for the more virulent strains)
“We need to have some humility here,” he added. “We really don’t know what the real number is. I think the real range is somewhere between 70 to 90 percent. But, I’m not going to say 90 percent.”
That is for the the vaccines with much higher efficacy: “Pfizer vaccine showed efficacy of 95% . . .The Moderna vaccine was 94.1% effective at preventing symptomatic Covid-19”
It is sounding pretty grim right now
Edit: It looks like B.1.1.7 has made its way to the US as well
You can combine lower vaccination rates with other measures to bring the r value below 1.
Still holding out hope that the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine people can get it together and achieve that 90%+ effectiveness, also I think it’s the only one my country pre ordered lol
The vaccines reduce disease, but does not eliminate infection, and does not eliminate infected people from spreading the infection to others.
I fear people who have been vaccinated going out and mixing with those who have not.
