Also, thinking of emulation more broadly, there are official releases of games that are objectively worse than their emulated counterparts Yup, also high-end PCs can add better effects, things the designers would have used if they were able to run it on hardware back then.
eg, BOTW in 4k with filters and HDR.
I remember going back to Final Fantasy 7 ~10 years ago. A game that probably took 12 year old me 60+ hours to beat. With frame skips I think I wrapped up everything (Knights of the Round, Ruby and Emerald etc.) in around 8 hours. There’s no way on earth I’ll ever play a JRPG again without fast forward.
