Just leave a comment if you’re COVID long hauler. In other words, if you had COVID and have symptoms 3+ months later. Also mention symptoms, blood type (if you know it) and any odd health quirks you had before COVID

Want to do personal research, will share my insights.

So far what they know is that Long-term COVID is extremely linked to Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS). MCAS has many similar symptoms as LH, and both have sense of smell implicated–aspirin is said to fix this in MCAS. MCAS patients who were already being treated for MCAS this year did not develop COVID, so that’s the smoking gun.

I personally had it in March, still have symptoms. Mainly POTS tachycardia, especially while peeing. Also big O2 drops that go back to 99–these are worse when I haven’t eaten carbs. Also recurring hemorrhoids that come and go in cycles.

I also have MCAS symptoms since puberty (27 now). Prickly itching sensations with spicy foods, pain in my hair follicles, random burning in my eyes, many others too. Most of these would go away in a matter of minutes so I never seeked medical help for them.

I had COVID about a month and a half ago. I haven’t noticed too many long term symptoms as of yet but I have had tighter lungs than i usually do.

I don’t know if it’s a coincidence cuz I’ve also had uncharacteristically bad allergies/sinus problems this season (I always have bad allergies but it’s been crazy bad the last 2-3 months).

But yea a bit of difficulty catching full breaths but that’s all I’ve noticed thus far

I never got tested for covid but I think I had it in June. Initially the symptoms were fatigue, weird sensations and sudden pain all around my body(I still have these) especially in my abdomen and back area. The fatigue went away and I started having severe constipation that went on for weeks(it kinda went away then came back) . After that I never had a normal digestive system, always have pain in my abdominal area etc. About 2 months ago I went to minute clinic and I was told my breathing was fine, blood pressure, oxygen etc was okay. Then I started having very heavy headaches, and I had insomnia for a month or so. One weird thing is my back pain, so a couple of years ago I fell on my back and hurt the lower tip of back bone. It was painful for a while but it went away. Now after I had covid the pain came back in that area, and I can’t sit properly now. My main problem now is the back pain, recurrent constipation and abdominal pain and headaches.(i started having peeing problem this week ). I never went to a doctor because the pains just go away in minutes. I never had smelling issues(already had partials mell loss from sinus infection in my childhood ). I hope this helps.

Pelvic floor dysfunction sounds serious. But I never had pain or any symptoms for more than a year. Are there any home remedies that may help with my condition, can’t afford to see a doctor?

(no known COVID infection)

i’m not a doctor, but if i was your doctor, would try supplementing potassium (prefer avocados, spinach, potatoes) just to see what happens.

tachycardia with peeing sounds like electrolyte issues, most likely losing too much potassium.

possibly you’re not eating too little carbs, but too much salt instead. sodium is like opposite potassium.
in any case, amount of carbs is irrelevant, what matters is glycemic index and insulin spikes.

angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) is needed for kidney function and directly involved with COVID.
other common cause of low potassium is diarrhea; but it can show up in many situations.

MCAS seems plausible, but idk anything about that.
but if MCAS causes long term COVID then I would suspect kidney damage as complication.

although, if it is more general kidney damage, electrolyte drink (no sugar because insulin spikes) could be better than just potassium, absorbs faster anyway.
effects should be obvious within fifteen minutes if electrolytes are part of the problem.

Welcome to /c/AmA

Want a scheduled AMA announced ahead of time? Contact Awoo directly at the bottom of this sidebar.

Please stick to one of either three post types:

A standard Ask Me Anything post.

A request post – (What is the format and why should I make a request post?)

A gauging interest post – (What is this?)

What is an AmA?

AmA’s or “Ask Me Anything” began on the old internet, originally AOL chatrooms, later followed by Slashdot. They are crowdsourced interviews where the interviewee first makes a post describing who they are and what they do. Commenters then leave questions and can vote on other questions according to which they would like to see answered.

The interviewee can then go through and reply to the questions they find interesting, and easily see those questions the internet is dying to have the answer too. Questions will be a mixture of radical, serious and lighthearted resulting in the kind of interview you won’t get elsewhere.

What Topics Are Allowed?

Anyone can do an Ask Me Anything. The topic of the AmA must meet the rules below, and in some cases you must provide proof of the claims you are making. Ask Me Anything topics fall into two categories:

Something that plays a central role in your life. The prime example of this is a person’s job; posts about someone’s occupation are almost always allowed. A person’s topic should be something that they know thoroughly and is important to them; this gives them more to discuss and a more thorough background in the field.

A truly interesting and unique event. An example would be “I organised a protest against x.” It’s an activity that doesn’t play a central role in someone’s life but is so uncommon that many users would not have experiences of their own to relate to it.

AmAs should NOT be about:

Mutual-Aid and Crowd Funding - AmA submitters that include any aid or funding campaign must be eligible for an AmA without the campaign for it to be allowed. Additionally, the focus of the AmA must not be the campaign – those posts would be more appropriate in the mutual-aid community. Posts about suicide.

Other Restrictions:

Giveaways are not permitted on AmA. Contests and giveaways already running on a third party site prior to the AmA are acceptable

Proof

Proof in the case of public figures or orgs may be a social media post on an official account. For other topics it may be a proof image. This does not always have to be included in the post at the time of posting and it may be discussed with the moderators and provided privately. We will ALWAYS respect your complete privacy.
