Why do we even need to try to convince people this is always the goal of capitalism? The capitalists literally say they’re going to do it
So they wanna make people pay them for the opportunity to undergo some of the most grueling physical and psychological feats possible (space flight followed by eight months of travel in a tin can) in order to live in Sealandia in space
Edit: AND THERES NOTHING TO DO ON MARS. You can bring back enough metals to devalue metals, but unless you only want to be a humanitarian, you’ll probably care that you’ll just be living in the equivalent of one small town in boring ass nowhere forever. Wanna visit anyone you’ve ever met before or go anywhere you’ve ever gone before? LOL

one small town with slow as fuck internet, the fastest earth-internet connection physically possible with have over 3 mins of latency
I would absolutely sign up and to work there to pay off my “debt” and immediately start agitating for Martian independence and a red Mars. Although that’s assuming self-sustainability, otherwise it’d just immediately get starved out with draconian measures next time round.
It’s all just fantasy now anyway
red Mars
I just finished reading Red Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson recently and it’s one of the best sci-fi books I’ve encountered. Without giving away too much of the plot, Martian independence is a primary story line. Highly recommended.
It’s like he just got done playing The Outer Worlds and thought “ooh there’s an idea!”
All this slavery shit is gonna go down, it’s just gonna happen on Earth.
Fully manual poverty straight space capitalism
