Having lived quite a bit in Lincoln state, it would be an absolute mess. Dry Alabama. Those areas are habitable because of the massive public revenue generated by the I-5 corridor, and huge swathes of it can already barely provide basic services at the county level due to dwindling populations and collapse of resource extraction/livestock industries.

I like how China becomes a liberal democracy and frees land, ect, but Taiwan is still an independent country.
