You’d think they’re used to it by now.

Here in Germany they’ve been considered that for many years now.

ETA: Let me explain.

They’re are being trapped in an eternal rat race. They’re basically being robbed by your edcational system and have no choice but being stuck in whatever work environment will help you get rid of those debts - with not a whole lot to show for.

They get barely any vacation time (here the legal minimum is 25 paid days), no proper parental leave (in Germany, it’s up to three years), no proper health insurance (what does a medical bill look like…? I don’t know), and forgot about old age: There are people who’s only job it is to greet everyone at the Walmart entrances because they’re so old, they can barely stand upright anymore. Always nearly made me tear up because I can’t even imagine my mom still having to work in her late 60s up to her mid-70s.

Most Americans, as I understand, aren’t even able to save up money. What’s earned is being spent right away for a bunch of shitty food or cheap plastic or a house or a car. They’re also being forced to accumulate debt in order to get a credit, it’s highly bizarre.

The thing is, they don’t even realize how bad they have it because they FEEL like hey’re living in paradise: You can (theoretically) buy everything you want to buy, the shelves are always fully stocked (with a fuck ton of crap that’s ridiculously bad for their health when we talk about food, with a fuck ton of crap that’s shipped in from China when we talk about useless stuff), there are countless programs on tv. That abundance of crap no one really needs keeps them in a state of semi-sedation all life long.

If you’d take all of these convenience and consumption aspects away from them, they’d suddenly realize that there’s not much of a quality of living left.

You know, it’s the early afternoon in my village, and when I look outside right now, I see peope riding their bikes or jogging or walking the dogs or pushing strollers and little children coming home from school with their little bicycles; I see grannies riding their bike to the local store…

When I was living in the US, the town was DEAD. The only thing alive were those stinky fast food places, where people in their “fuck their enivronment” gas-guzzlers were queuing from the early morning to late at night. Other than that, they hopped into the car straight out of the living room, drove to work, drove to go shop for crap, and went straight back into the living room again. Idk man. It just made me sad to watch.
