I don’t understand why they are like this. I know things are fucked and there are currently not enough vaccines, but I’ve had to scold several liberals bitching about this. Why are they so obsessed with moralism and meritocracy? It’s always about what groups are most deserving of something and god forbid we can’t all have anything nice, or good standards of living because somone undeserving might gasp take advantage. Anyway, that’s all I just needed to vent.
Sounds like the same kind of liberal who goes into every Reddit thread about homeless people and repeats the same fake story about a homeless dude threatening to cut his throat because he wouldn’t give him a dollar.
because their entire way of being is based on hierarchies. because they have to learn to love the oppressors if they’re going to tolerate a police state that enforces stratification, and in learning to love the oppressors, they invest their safety in them. its this weird feedback loop of atrocities. so without stratification, without winners and losers, they literally cannot feel safe.
Probably a hot take, but the whole “who should get it first” is largely stupid. This is the one time where “herd immunity” is actually real and matters, and the goal should be to immunize as many people as quickly as possible. Obviously they have fucked up the rollout and there should have been much better planning about who was going to get it when and scheduling since they had almost a whole year to figure that out, but just fucking get people vaccinated. That’s what’s wild about the Cuomo regimes program. Rich people are going to fucking cut the line no matter what. I’d honestly rather just auction off vaccines right now and use the money to pay for everyone else’s vaccines.
Herd immunity is obviously the main goal but if they can minimize deaths by giving it to people most at risk of dying first, that would be best. If the rollout was planned well, this could have been possible to do while also vaccinating people as quickly as possible. But it has been a disaster
Yeah I mean I think that nursing homes and whatnot should still be prioritized, but we shouldn’t be letting vaccines expire because hospitals or whoever are worried about getting fined for giving it to the wrong person.
I have no problem with smokers being on the list, but what’s fucking bizarre is that my state ranks them as more urgently in need of the vaccine than asthma sufferers
It may have something to do with data collected so far comparing outcomes in the two groups, or it may have to do with rate of transmission out of each group. Smokers are going to keep smoking, and those smoke particles are going to carry virions into the lungs of anybody who can smell them. Every asthmatic I know is staying inside as much as possible.
