I look forward to the next couple months, when the NYT will be writing an article about the counteroffensive stalling out because nobody could have predicated how cold the winter would be.
“Elastic defense” is one of the most common, run of the mill, bog standard, standard defense tactics known to man.
It’s probably taught on the first day of all officers schools worldwide, and on the first page of every tactics textbook.
I like how the article acts like it’s some ancient and never before seen tactical innovation lol
There’s so many parallels between the Ukrainian counteroffensive and the Germans at the Battle of Kursk that I can’t believe the Ukrainian senior staff, who would have been trained in Soviet officer schools, don’t see the similarities.
Outwardly they’re putting on a brave face but inwardly the must know.
Oh wow, who could have predicted that this would be the right way to do defense? Oh yeah, everyone with any knowledge of military history. We have been saying since last year that Russia was doing exactly this, and not just at the tactical level but on the larger strategic scale as well. We warned that Ukraine deciding to stubbornly cling to every meter of territory and fight to the death for every single ruined building was not a smart thing to do. Especially in places like Bakhmut where the Russians took full advantage of this stubbornness to really bleed them dry, which probably greatly contributed to the failure of the counteroffensive that we have been witnessing for the past months. Everyone who has ever read history, all the way since ancient times, through the Mongols, to WW2 recognized this is what the Russians were doing and was warning that Ukraine should have a more flexible defense as well. But i guess learning from history is just something evil tankies do…
They are doing everything they can to avoid saying “Russia is winning”
wow Russian army is using tactics, who could’ve predicted this
They are supposed to just stand there at predefined locations and be mowed down by the players.
NATO weapons are so good sometimes they even destroy themselves. For example, the issues with the F-35 isn’t that is a dogshit jet who’s only purpose is to be a money funnel to rich military contractors. It’s that it is just TOO eager to destroy jets. When you fly one and it’s not destroying other jets it just destroys itself instead. And if you leave it sitting in an aircraft carrier this needs to destroy other jets causes it to rust from frustration.
