Apparently she is a survivor herself.
Edit: aaaaaaaand the libs are co-opting this of course… I’m proud of AOC for sharing her story. I wouldn’t be nearly as brave or intelligent when I was her age. critical support, as usual. AOC good today. Who knows what tomorrow holds.
On the 6th at a bit after 1pm someone started banging on every door in her office. There were no voices. No yells. No one identifying themselves. Just “boom boom boom”
She ran over to her legislative person and he just goes “run and hide”
She hides in a bathroom. Keeps hearing bang bang bang.
She realizes that she should have jumped into the closet - opens the door to the bathroom so she can go run across to the closet. Then she heard that whoever was trying to get inside had gotten into her office. She went back into the bathroom to hide.
Then she started to hear these yells of “where is she?WHERE IS SHE?”
This is the moment where she thought everything was over. She thought she was going to die
Edit: 134k people watching this
She looks through the keyhole in the bathroom door, and saw a white dude in a black beanie screaming “where is she” and then all of a sudden she heard her staffer telling her to come out.
So she comes out, and the man was a capitol police officer. He was not yelling capitol police. He didn’t have a partner. He was looking at her with a tremendous amount of anger and hostility.
Apparently her legislative director said they didn’t know if the police officer was there to help her or hurt her. The staffer was wondering if he’d have to fight the officer to protect AOC
So the officer didn’t give a specific location. She was with other congresspeople in the basement and didn’t know where to go, but could hear the zombie chuds outside of the doors of the hallway
They were told to go to street level. She went to a familiar members office. She was with only a few people in a hallway. She saw Katie porter in the hallway who had no idea what was going on at that point. She ran to her office and knocked on the door and said “can I shelter with you right now” and she was like “sure come in”
So she was fully expecting for one of the chuds to be turning the corner with a gun. She assumed twice that she was going to die at this point. She starts looking for places to hide and she tells Katie “have any of the staffers left workout clothes?”
So she starts looking through and finds a bag and they get sneakers (she had been in high heels)
Staffers pushed furniture against the door. They wanted to change into gym clothes so they could run and escape through a window and not be recognized in a crowd
OUR BEST BET IS TO REMOVE THE CAPITOL POLICE PRE-EMPTIVELY, THEN WE CAN REPLACE THEM WITH OUR PEOPLE
They absolutely would have killed her if they had the chance. And worse. These people have been whipped into a frenzy by their fascistic media and their online “leaders” have done nothing but try to constantly demean and dehumanize her for having the gall to speak a modicum of truth to power. They primed the pump for this violence. It is good the chuds were too busy being knuckleheads to actually find one of their targets but I also know mob mentality, and if one person had managed to grab her and knock her down, others would have joined in the attack. No-one in that group would have tried to intervene. They’re too stupid to do anything right, and that includes doing the right thing, such as attempting to mitigate the violence around them. They’re such fucking cowards. Misogynist, misanthropic, mollycoddled cowards.
It really does seem like we’re a handful of competent people short of a fullblown take over by the right wing . Contrarians will talk their usual irony pilled shit about how it was nothing, just like everything ever, but this. is just the beginning. They are just as naive and arrogant as liberals are.
And of course there are fucking creeps thirsting over AOC in the chat while she shares her trauma… jfc
This is only tangentially related but it’s extremely troubling to me that every woman I know has either been a victim of sexual violence or has at least had multiple close calls. It’s so fucking common and it’s barely ever acknowledged, let alone anything done about it.
Zero support for the capitol rioters - they’re enemies. But the initial liberal/mainstream reaction to it was exaggerated. At that point, all we knew was that a mass of demonstrators broke through flimsy police lines/was welcomed in, loitered for an hour or two max, then left. Calling such civil disobedience “terrorism” or a “fascist coup” is A) inaccurate, B) opens the way for greater police repression, the bulk of which is always anti-left.
The scarier details of the events (though still not entirely clear) only came out later - like now. Hard to judge something before you have all the evidence. Now it seems a bit flipped - there were some rioters with murderous intent and perhaps some danger of greater casualties, BUT the Democrats are calling for unity with Republicans.
Still, the dangerous element here was whoever purposefully weakened the police defenses (getting 9/11 flashbacks): either the Trump administration or just far-right cops. The mob itself, even with its most dangerous elements, was no organized insurrection, no putsch. They only became dangerous because the cops stood down (or were drawn down). That’s who the investigators should go after. Fuck Ted Cruz and Trump, but pointing the finger at them in public is participating in the clown show.

Chomsky radlibs who don’t understand Marxism but see everything in the idealistic lens of “the Overton window” and “manufacturing consent”
I think the key is you said riot. I am on board with riot. I think my issue is with calling it a coup. Calling that thing a coup attempt is an insult to actual coups.
