What is vocal fry and why are we fighting about it?

The best I’ve been able to understand is its when a person speaking ends their sentences in a lower/gravely/cracking way. For some reason when the person speaking is perceived as a woman, it causes irrational anger in some listeners.

it’s a thing where you drop your voice low and relax your vocal chords so your voice sounds kinda creaky, think it’s exclusively an american thing
