I never used to see American football other than when it was referenced on American tv shows. Now they talk about it on the news and theres a whole damn channel for it.

I’m old and grumpy.

Why is it even called a Superbowl?

It used to be called the AFL-NFL championship game back when there were 2 football leagues in the USA in ancient times. The term “Superbowl” was coined by the media and it stuck.

That and Halloween are spreading in Europe, presumably because local channels are eager to save money by licencing/regurgitating American media
