The situation is too much. I feel helpless. I cannot even imagine the suffering of disabled and wounded people in Gazan hospitals cut off from electricity and water. I’m recovering from a surgery myself and it’s difficult with water access and it would probably just get infected and take me out if I had no water.

I’ve been using Lemmy a lot during the recovery as my body’s weakness affects the skull organ as well, making me function barely if even (thrown trash into sink without realizing, going out to buy something I need only to be completely unable to remember what, waking up from pain and so on). I think I want to pick up a hobby and I figured video editing. I know I won’t make it as a content creator, but at least I can kill time and have the 0,00…01% chance of perhaps no longer needing to work for corpos, so I don’t have to prepare for libs rejoicing in genocide of brown people while patting self on the back for being so progressive by it. I just downloaded two open source video editors and will see if I can muster the strength to record sth to edit, or if I even have enough storage to actually do this. I wanted to watch tube in peace, but every video is jokes about homosexuals, homeless and China and I’m tired. Some videos about MineCraft were straight up advertising Christian youth camps in the middle. I don’t like this. So I guess I’m gonna spend my life listening to my own voice, unless I give up one hour in or sth.

Anyone else picking up new hobbies?

I’ve been indoor gardening for a while. I’ve got a tomatoplant going, some herbs and a pepper plant. I made homemade, handpicked jalapeno sauce a couple of days ago.

My gf is doing crochet and has so far made me a shirt, she is finishing a bag and has made some bookmakers, a lamp shade and a bookcover. It’s a pretty cheap and easy hobby.

It was. Peppers, some onions, garlic, cumin, salt, pinch of lemon juice, cilantro and vinegar. It was not too spicy but very flavorful.

I’ve started building models. Easy to start, but there’s a very high skill ceiling and very difficult. I’ve been slowly improving though and having fun with it! It allows me to spend a few hours not thinking about anything else, and I can watch tv or YouTube while I work. It also lets me be very creative with myself and build whatever comes to mind.

My most recent finished project was a Sdkfz. 223 Armoured Scout Car, and I built it a North African desert ruins diorama with a mortar team in tow.

I’m currently building a Stug IV, haven’t decided what camouflage pattern I might use for the painting if I get that far, or what diorama I should build. Have been debating a diorama of it dug in in a ruined city defensive position under fire from a T-34 I completed earlier.

I’m debating doing a dug in Zis-3 under maneuver, Flak 88 firing position/command post, Uboat Type VII at sea, or Sturmovik for my next project.

I have started using emacs. Took me two days but I think I have begun to understand how keybindings work.

Those keybindings are useful in the terminal and other places that use GNU readline too

I know the basics of readline bind well enough. When I meant was configuring the keybindings. Figuring out how to use define-key is a challenge in itself but there are other ways too like general.el and use-package’s :bind directive. Then I also had to figure how to have decently helpful messages for some keys and prefixes.

Ah got it. Two sources I wish I knew about in the beginning are Xah Lee and Mastering Emacs. I linked keybinding specific pages, but both have a LOT of content and are super helpful. I’ve never read them start to finish, but just picked topics I was interested in learning about.

I’ve picked up sewing and I’m getting pretty decent with my thrift slaughtered fabric dresses :)
