that’s how capitalism “works”. if they don’t have goons who can murder people with impunity their power doesn’t exist. it doesn’t even matter if their goons are specifically murdering to protect capital or just murdering because of their own bigotry. their only power is through our fear of being murdered. it’s why nothing will change short of a bloody revolution.
Power flows from the barrel of a gun, and cops have the guns. The state cannot hold them accountable while relying on them to defend capitalist property relations.

yeah, defund the police was easy enough to co-opt and destroy. “yeah lets do that! oh wait, actually we need that money to go to the police, aw shucks.” there is no co-opting abolish those mother fuckers.
