Just to caveat, as an old head I do actually want to offer context to one of the more obscure/legendary posts. But let’s also keep it respectful of this persons very bad day, as ridiculous as it was to essentially everyone else.

Do you also want to fuck the bunny cop?

I’m gonna let Ben take this one for me.

Shapiro: Let’s get some facts straight, if I, hypothetically, was sexually aroused by feet, then surely, logically, larger feet would be superior as they would provide greater stimulus. Have you ever touched a lucky rabbits foot? I have. They are perhaps the softest thing ever. In conclusion, any paraphernalia I make my very real wife wear as I call her Alexandria Hopps is extremely justified and normal.

It was a mix, mainly people were incredulous. I think the initial difficulty in discerning whether it was a bit played into it, a lot of people thought it wasn’t sincere at first and I think not being taken seriously and then the subsequent memes on the sub were what pushed them over the edge.

In the actual threads they joined most of the top comments were trying to talk them down once it became clear they were in a bit of a spiral, but there were a lot of not very sensitive meme posts that of course drew them in.

No one, as far as I know, went out of their way to harass them directly. They just couldn’t resist continuing to engage even though they were obviously unhappy. It was very clearly a manic episode of some kind.

I would say that overall, the community on average didn’t behave too badly, and the mods did a good job of shutting shit down once it became clear what kind of headspace they were in.

A lot of unintentional harm as a meme post that wasn’t particularly mean-spirited would draw them in again. Of course some people kept teasing them about wanting to fuck the bunny cop. That was the main egregious thing.

Probably, but providing the context for incomers helps make us more inclusive. Most of their posts also got nuked, so if you weren’t online on that fateful day you may have missed it. I spoke to them directly, which was a weird experience I wanted to share.

The legacy started earlier than the climatic events on r/cth. Basically they were active on leftist furry subreddits and had a, as they described it, a deep personal connection to Zootopia. This was the height of ACAB and in those leftist furry spaces people started critiquing Judy Hopps (all bunny cops are bastards etc).

This person believed that leftist memes were some kind of unrelenting juggernaut of cultural hegemony (no, actually though) and that Zootopia was going to be cancelled, along with Hopps.

Cue going to leftist subs and trying to plead that Judy Hopps is ok and for people to stop critiquing her. Of course people think it’s a bit and start joking about it, until this persons increasingly emotionally distraught posts, erratic behavior, and post history come to light: they were totally sincere.

The mods see someone having a breakdown and ban them to try and prevent them from being so online, but they start making alts and just head right back in. Eventually they petered out as people mostly started trying to talk them down and bunny posting was suspended.

More than anything I wish I had screenshotted their posts, since they were honestly some of the funniest shit I’ve ever read, and I say that with a lot of sympathy for what they were going through, they were clearly having some kind of episode, but it was still deeply deeply funny.

see, with the meme takeaway being ‘don’t fuck the bunny cop’ i’d assumed it was hornier in character than that. thanks for the deep lore insight

Surprisingly unhorny in truth, though I’m not going to deny that being horn’t for the Hopps probably played a role.

Create post

Welcome to /c/AmA

Want a scheduled AMA announced ahead of time? Contact Awoo directly at the bottom of this sidebar.

Please stick to one of either three post types:

A standard Ask Me Anything post.

A request post – (What is the format and why should I make a request post?)

A gauging interest post – (What is this?)

What is an AmA?

AmA’s or “Ask Me Anything” began on the old internet, originally AOL chatrooms, later followed by Slashdot. They are crowdsourced interviews where the interviewee first makes a post describing who they are and what they do. Commenters then leave questions and can vote on other questions according to which they would like to see answered.

The interviewee can then go through and reply to the questions they find interesting, and easily see those questions the internet is dying to have the answer too. Questions will be a mixture of radical, serious and lighthearted resulting in the kind of interview you won’t get elsewhere.

What Topics Are Allowed?

Anyone can do an Ask Me Anything. The topic of the AmA must meet the rules below, and in some cases you must provide proof of the claims you are making. Ask Me Anything topics fall into two categories:

Something that plays a central role in your life. The prime example of this is a person’s job; posts about someone’s occupation are almost always allowed. A person’s topic should be something that they know thoroughly and is important to them; this gives them more to discuss and a more thorough background in the field.

A truly interesting and unique event. An example would be “I organised a protest against x.” It’s an activity that doesn’t play a central role in someone’s life but is so uncommon that many users would not have experiences of their own to relate to it.

AmAs should NOT be about:

Mutual-Aid and Crowd Funding - AmA submitters that include any aid or funding campaign must be eligible for an AmA without the campaign for it to be allowed. Additionally, the focus of the AmA must not be the campaign – those posts would be more appropriate in the mutual-aid community. Posts about suicide.

Other Restrictions:

Giveaways are not permitted on AmA. Contests and giveaways already running on a third party site prior to the AmA are acceptable

Proof

Proof in the case of public figures or orgs may be a social media post on an official account. For other topics it may be a proof image. This does not always have to be included in the post at the time of posting and it may be discussed with the moderators and provided privately. We will ALWAYS respect your complete privacy.
