For some people the confrontation is exhilarating because it’s very low stakes. Yelling at someone online is low risk and they can’t really beat you up or anything. You don’t actually have to sit face-to-face with them so there’s way less social anxiety for the scolds. They get a rush out of it from what I saw in another thread with them bragging about owning people. It’s purely masturbatory in that way rather than trying to create a productive conversation. They get to feel confrontational and radical by owning the dummies but without all the nasty interpersonal things that go along with it. They’ll swear they’re just as confrontational offline too but we all know that’s not true otherwise they wouldn’t do this. They would have that outlet.

We’ve decended to the “You’re opinion, but a guy who looks like Hitler is saying it” and “if we replace replace what you said with something else” levels of argumentation.

It’s painful. Like, we need posting classes at this point.

Seriously. People were saying this site was made for dunking but you cannot reliably dunk on someone to change their mind.

Dunking is for people who already agree with each other to dunk on people you don’t agree with. It’s a masturbatory act. It’s lots of fun but you’re very rarely making anyone think about their views.
