florida has a reputation for being a hellish state, and most of it is justified, but the bright futures program is surprisingly cool and offers up to full tuition for students that meet certain academic/community service requirements. full disclosure, the program disproportionately favors white students, but it’s still a good first step for free higher education and could have been expanded upon in the future. much better than anything most states offer.

of course it was too good to be left alone, lmao. even better, they’re attempting to tie what awards remain to whether a given student’s degree “leads directly to jobs,” because why the hell not. maybe this is lib shit, but it sucks to just sit and watch austerity encroach like this, so i encourage floridian comrades to harass the everliving fuck out of dennis baxley, the ghoul behind these changes.
