I remember learning about this and some other whacky muscle-related animal disorders in biochemistry
Like those cows that are mega-swole because they have a gene that tells their muscles to essentially never stop getting bigger

That era of biochemistry has a lot of interesting history to it.
Pauling and Watson both come off as egomaniacs, except Pauling had a much more legitimate “genius” to back it up.
These things are absolutely related. There’s mountains of studies on lead’s effects on childhood development, and plenty of them are current since it’s still an issue in areas with high poverty.
The inner city hospital I trained at had an entire analyzer dedicated to running basically non-stop lead assays on kids from public housing.
