I would say I do, something about random hormone fluctuations in pregnancy. (or whatever the similar theory for gayness is idk).
I just suppose that ultimately, I believe being trans is a ‘biological’ statistic. or something like that.
I think that it’s just part of the human condition. Because like, trans people have clearly existed in every human society at every period, just like gay people or left-handed people or whatever. There’s just always a percentage in any group that’s trans/genderqueer etc (and who knows what that percentage is, we’ve still got a way to go as a society before we can have even a roughly accurate idea (not that we need one of course)).
Whatever culture or society we’re born into, or whatever life experience we have, merely affects the degree to which we can be aware about our transness and express it.
But however, in saying all of that; I would agree that this (the ‘born this way’ thing) is yeah, not necessarily a great way to treat it all in practice, because it’s something that can easily stray close to trans-medicalism and other gatekeepy shit if you’re not careful. (because while I can point to things and feelings from my childhood/teenage years that are obviously signs in retrospect, I know other trans people who kinda can’t, so it’s not really a great metric that applies to everyone anyway)
If popularizing the whole ‘who cares if it’s a choice’ thing is what leads to more informed consent, and/or transition (both medically and socially) being made more accessible, accepted and allows people more room to experiment and all that, then that’s clearly the right path forward.
