I just watched another movie that literally begins with a quote from Mao: Sergio Leone’s Duck, You Sucker It’s expiring from the Criterion Channel this month for anyone who has it. Pretty interesting/fun action flick about to guys getting caught up in the Mexican Revolution. Worth checking out.
I read “How to Be an Antiracist” too and credit where credit is due, Kendi does dedicate a chapter each to both imperialism and capitalism and how both have borne racist policies/instilled racist values. I mean, you won’t see him calling for the government to be overthrown, but he doesn’t not call for it lol. It was better than White Fragility for sure, which is just self-flagellation.
Only speaking from personal taste, but it was a show I didn’t so much enjoy as much as I appreciated the subject matter. I never really found it that funny (I think the only time I laughed out loud was the last season where Todd builds a robot to head his company and it’s made of dildos and is hyper sexual iirc) and a lot of the jokes were the same setup and delivery: “ I’m Bojack and I observed this shitty behavior, good thing I’m nothing like that.”
Just got old for me fast. I appreciated them trying to tackle shitty behavior in the entertainment industry, but didn’t quite land most of the time (I think they mentioned representation and it was kind of weird given the criticisms of a white actress voicing a Vietnamese character in the show). Don’t know what other chapos think about it.
You nailed the bs the doc pulls in those final moments about trying to shame the viewers for the shit the filmmaker did. The story didn’t have to be told that way motherfuckers. And I really really really wish they didn’t show any of the footage. Maybe just closeups of any identifying features that the interviewees are talking about. But by showing large chunks of the videos, they’re basically giving the murderer the kind of attention he wanted. But yeah, wish I could wipe some of those images from my brain as well as the songs he used during them as well, hopefully I can forget those.
Can’t say he’s made anything bad, but Hateful Eight is definitely one of my least favorite of his. It’s just so long and doesn’t really engage me the way his other movies do and kind of stays in one gear the whole time. I’ll gladly rewatch anything else he’s done, but I don’t think I’ll want to watch Hateful Eight again for a long time.
Wow, I completely forgot I watched this movie years ago. The only thing I remember is that hard cut to the shot of her head…very disturbing. Felt pretty exploitive to me, and I’d probably still see it that way. Fortunately I forgot most of it.
You trying to say AOC should have snapped Manchin’s neck instead?
Been seeing a lot of Buttigieg love circulating on Twitter for going on Fox and saying they are wrong about things in the most uninspiring way. Makes you sick that a lot of these same people were furious at Bernie Sanders for going on Fox and actually making proposals that even Dems found too radical and having the Fox News audience actually agree with him. It’s all so stupid all the time.
