I hope I don’t get memed for this.
I feel like the VTuber community is becoming more and more sexualised as a whole. The thing that really tipped me over the edge was this clipping channel’s outro featuring Kronii. After watching a clip from this channel, I always wondered if other people feel uncomfortable as well, or if it has been normalised.
I primarily follow Hololive and Nijisanji EN, which should be the tamest communities, but it is just littered with people who go **“haha I make fun of chest size I am big funny”. ** ou see this everywhere, in clips, comments, the subreddit, and on twitter. It is expected that you will see thirsty comments quite frequently regardless of which VTuber you follow and what type of stream it is. In the comments section of that community post image earlier, you’ll see comments like “o7” and **“Thank you, Kronii booba, for all your hard work.” ** comments that previously were these ironic memey **“haha I would lick your feet”, ** become commonplace sentiment **“yes please, let me lick your feet”. ** I ’m doing a really terrible job at explaining this but I hope you understand
I’m definitely not someone who thinks that people being hot, or people being open about sexuality is a bad thing. The thing is, if I met the average person from the VTuber fanbase right now, I’d probably feel very uncomfortable around them. And I do wonder would this look to someone new to the community. Will it scare them away? Will it reaffirm stereotypical images of anime-fans and simps. There is weirdly so much focus on VTuber model appearance (and sexiness), but doesn’t that miss the whole point of the avatar? That we’re interacting with the character instead of the streamer directly? We’ve done this weird loop back to “streamer uses body to get donations”, but with avatars(???) Although I will say, most of the worsening removed has been the community and clippers rather than the VTubers themselves, although most of the VTubers either egg it on or do nothing. At the end of the day, I really just want to know if I’m geniunely getting old and being a prude, or if there are other people getting more uncomfortable with VTubing content.
