That might not be strictly true re: international students. Visas are a bitch, some are choosing to maintain their Visa by staying in school no matter what. Hell, where I work we’ve seen a slight increase in last-second international applicants who don’t get financial aid or scholarships

It’s also being pitched as a plan to redress income inequality. Because everybody knows the way to fix income inequality is to create a program for small business loans so you can shoot a load of cheap money all over the people who already own the means of production.

They don’t understand that the people who own businesses in a community don’t fucking live there and the people who work in a community don’t own that community. We, the workers, rent our places in the communities we live in, and these assholes are so out of touch they don’t even know the difference.

I work at a university and we had a complicated formula to create a fake fee waiver code that looked like a one-time code but was actually just your signature plus some meaningless numbers. We were supposed to give out a “unique” fee waiver code to each student so that they would think that they are super duper special, but at a certain point in the year we ran a report of every applicant who sent us transcripts and test scores, but whose application wouldn’t be read because they didn’t pay the app fee. Then we’d block-waive the fee and read them all.

Eventually, after the staff had been pushing for years to get rid of it, they let us just not pretend about the app fee anyway. We never cared about the fee, we waived half of them anyway and I think that money went straight into a dean’s pocket because the number of app fees paid/waived was the one statistic about money that no higher-ups ever asked for.

App fees are stupid and I’m so glad I don’t have to solicit them anymore.

edit: I still get a few hundred fee waiver requests each year, though. And it’s always privileged kids, either some program they’re a part of sends us a form letter or the kid sends out an email CC’d to fifteen college admission departments saying they need a fee waiver because they’re applying to thirty schools.

If you dissolve styrofoam into gasoline it’ll make the gas sticky, sure, but you could piss the fire out because it won’t burn very well. The more stuff you put in, the greater the energy requirement to continue the reaction.

Pure H202 might be an explosive but the stuff you use to treat wounds is diluted to the point it won’t blow up no matter what you do to it.

benzene is the compound added to accelerate burning. Well, I don’t know if that was the intent, but it would definitely get the job done. It burns hotter and faster than gasoline. It also is so toxic that the oil industry stopped using it and admitted there is no safe concentration of benzene. I didn’t even finish ochem and I’m more terrified of benzene than radiation.

Ha, I did a data scrape for CA-7 for a campaign once a few years ago. Also I live near-ish enough to know the area. It’s main Elk Grove, which used to be a little aggy town, but was taken over by white flight and is now just an exurb of Sacramento. It’s this disgusting little extremely wealthy enclave of people stealing aggy valor and they’ve got a very '60s sense of “you don’t belong here, boy” going on.

I fucking haaaaate Elk Grove and most of Contra Costa County.

DNC means both Democratic National Convention and Democratic National Committee. Op, understandably imo, got the two a little conflated and said DNC convention.

While we’re at it, please join me in my years-long war with people who put the apostrophe at the end of a decade’s name like it were a possessive. It’s a contraction, it goes at the start.

Goddamn it, you have '90s nostalgia because we can infer that you’re not talking about the 1790s. You don’t have 90’s nostalgia because your nostalgia doesn’t belong to the number 90.

This reminds me of something I’ve always hated about the first Mass Effect.

Your character is some shady special forces type who is literally above all laws in the galaxy and you come across a racist rally. The’re protesting the end of the war between humans and one of the species of aliens. Not the war, the end of the war. And going on about how humanity needs to ‘stand on its own’. Mind you, the whole game is about racism, so they put thought into this interaction. Your character can either be a Renegade where you hit people, act racist, and kill people for nothing, or a Paragon where you act like the biggest lib in the galaxy and do a bunch of needlessly self sacrificial stuff.

So you, a squad of heavily armed soldiers who are above the law, come across a rally of extreme racists who are known to be violent. The spokesperson for them comes and asks you to endorse his run for office, and as Renegade you can agree but as Paragon you just say something like “I disagree, but I respect your right to your opinions”. No! The opposite of racism isn’t not-racist, it’s antiracism. Fuck 'em up! To borrow some analysis from Ibram X Kendi, a neutral option on racism doesn’t exist. If your actions/policies create or sustain racial inequities, your actions/policies are racist. So fuck 'em up! Your character has the power to amplify or shut down their shit, walking away is choosing to allow it to continue, and that’s choosing racism over antiracism.

Space Nazis get the airlock, collaborators get put against the bulkhead.
