From what I can tell, it seems like the main problem was that the term “Dunk Tank” had a racist origin, and I think everyone on the site would probably agree that a name change is fair. But the admins decided to kill two birds with one stone by using the controversy over the name to solve what they think is some kind of longstanding problem with the Dunk and Dredge tanks by making coms that have overly stuffy names and strange rules. I can’t say exactly what they think the problem with the tanks was because they’ve never bothered to properly explain- they’ve gestured vaguely at chauvinism or misogyny but have provided no explanation of how these two coms in particular are problematic in those areas. When asked for examples, TC69 said to look at the modlog, and I caught a 24 hour ban on this com when I stated that the modlog seems to demonstrate that the system we have works fine since offending posts are removed.
