The actual food at restaurants is pretty cheap at cost. Garlic knots? Pff. Drinks are the cheapest part of any meal. This man paid pennies and perhaps got some new loyal customers. Plus, he probably genuinely enjoys pleasing people. I’ve known more than a few restaurateurs who do this kind of thing. They just love delighting people and making them thank him.
