I think the idea is not that white women are “more special”, but instead that they are more powerful in a racist society.
In this situation, a white woman cried racism, and bystanders and staff believed her. Do you think bystanders would consistently give that same level of trust and support if it were a black or brown woman instead?
I read it differently, it seems to me that Zizek is coming from a place of empathy and trying to humanize the Palestinian cause.
Most people are woefully uninformed, and they naturally ask “Why would Hamas do Oct 7th?” The answer often comes in the form of pro-Israeli propaganda: they’re antisemitic, they’re animals, they have been taught to hate.
The best way to break through this propaganda is by showing what the Palestinian people have suffered over the past 70 years, and especially the last 16 years. When people learn of the apartheid conditions, the brutal blockade, the Great March of Return, etc, many come to the conclusion that they too would be driven to violence if they were treated in such a horrific and unjust manner.
Anyway I might be wrong about Zizek, but I would totally pay to see this movie.
As a former call center employee, I have seen so many bright eyed young people get destroyed by the job.
Those who make it a year are all depressed, no exceptions. Many fall into serious drug addiction.
After 5 years, there will be suicides.
If you are considering a call center job, I urge you to do something safer instead, like heroin or free solo climbing.
We desperately need a strong call center employees union.
As much as I would love to see the destruction of the IDF, I really fear for the Lebanese people.
An all out war means massive bombing in all major cities including Beirut and Tel Aviv. The range of artillery and drones mean nowhere would be safe in either country. IDF ground forces, battle-hardened against unarmed civilians, would likely lose to Hezbollah. But Israel would likely control the skies, leading to a protracted, bloody stalemate. Like the battlefields of Ukraine, but worse.
The people of Lebanon are already suffering so much, but this would bring about a new level of devastation.
But I believe the logic of mutually assured destruction applies here. Even the most bloodthirsty Likudniks, despite their saber rattling, will not force an all out war.
It’s got good bones, but they are bare.
It’s very pretty, the fundamentals are well done, its satisfying. The animations stand out- you can watch a villager build each building beam by beam.
But after you set up food growing and a few production chains, there isn’t much left to do. This could be a great game in a year or three, but its not there yet.
