Lots of good points in this thread, but I’d like to offer that even if everyone on hexbear were terrible annoying people, I’m an adult who can block content for myself.

Defederating is good for when an instance is hosting illegal content and you need to keep it off our servers, or if an instance is spamming stuff with bots and abusing the fediverse, but when it comes to content I do or don’t want to see, I want to make that decision myself.

2nd amendment. Maybe the one useful thing we can get out of it.

Conceptually? I’m all for it. Why wouldn’t I be.

In practice, we live in a capitalist society and I don’t want an arm that makes me watch an advertisement before I open a bag of chips.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again — y’all are awesome, and thank you for all the work you’re doing with this instance!

Very solid answer. Just make sure to watch a couple YouTube videos tutorials on how to throw correctly so you can quickly make.progress toward being good enough such that you don’t just lose your discs every time you throw them. It’s a lot more fun when that annoyance is less frequent.

I’d imagine it’s because people who use spaces are either further in their career in average (because the modern programming ecosystem in general uses tabs so new devs are more likely to only know that) or they’re just more serious about software development because the kind of person to die on that hill is also the kind of person who is very obsessive about other things as well.
