Move to a new, smaller, instance. You can still use lemmy.world as though it was still running at full speed. You can still post to lemmy.world or other federated communities and you experience won’t be so painful.
Lemmy.world is experiencing an influx of Redditors and with us good Redditors come our awful trolls. Growth, along with DDoS attacks have plagued the site since I began using it.

Maybe its cause I’ll never be a billionaire that I don’t understand it. But can anyone ELI5 what you could possibly do with that much money except to give it all away or pass it along to your next of kin when you die? It’s physically impossible to spend all that money, right?
I completely agree with you on this. You mentioned early in your post that the ability to block instances is coming soon. As a Lemmy user that came over during the Redd-exit, there was a lot of “noise” on the All feed that has taken me some time to sift through and cater to my personal preference.
It’s for this reason why I too am, currently, against defederation. If there’s a community I don’t want to hear from, I block them. If there’s a user I don’t want to hear from, I block them. In the near future, when there are instances I don’t want to hear from, I will block them too.
While I might not want to hear from some people, their right to exist within the Fediverse should not be questioned, unless they break the rules. In which case, the user is banned/post locked or removed and we carry on living our lives.
My uncle spent years preaching to me about the need to be loyal to a company. I never drank the Kool-Aid. He spent 21 years working for an investment banking company in their IT department. 4 years before he was set to retire with a full pension, etc. his company was acquired by a larger bank. He lost everything except his 401k. He then spent the next 12 years working to get his time back so he’d be able to retire. He died 2 years ago and the company sent a bouquet of flowers.

Super Mario Bros. A game that’s nearly as old as I am, that fully stands the test of time. From the very beginning of my gaming days, this and Duck Hunt got me into it. Dig Dug 2 was the first game I ever got angry enough to flip the tv the bird. Sonic and Tails probably was the second major influence on my life, from a video game perspective. After that I was a gamer and will never turn away from the cathode-ray light!
The US medical system is fucked. We’ve let insurance and pharmaceutical companies interfere and make your health a “for profit” industry. Until healthcare is about taking care of patients and less about financial gains the system will remain broken
Nixon is dead…or at best a head in a jar. His policies were shit when he was in office and are even worse under today’s political climate
