Too many distributions, not enough desktop environments. Distributions don’t really vary that much other than how they’re installed, what the release model and what the package manager is.

What really matters is what you run on it, but for some reason people insist on “distro-hopping” and not on “desktop-hopping”.

Why? There’s not many that actually do unique things. KDE/GNOME are the big ones, then plenty of macOS clones without much substance (i. e. Cutefish, Pantheon), the lightweighter Windows clones that all somewhat work the same (Xfce, LXQt, MATE, Liri), and that was basically it. They all do the same thing Windows or macOS do, featuring the same design choices and look and feel; oh look, a full-size taskbar with a clock in the right corner and a start menu in the left corner! Riveting.

The only ones that really have something unique going for them are Trinity, WMaker/GNUstep, Enlightenment/Moksha, CDE, EMWM and maybe Sugar. You’ll notice that they’re not exactly the most popular or well supported ones.

Where’s really creative and innovative ones like ROX used to be? Where’s the funky 3D desktop environments? Where’s ones with completely new control schemes like a radial menu or a modern take on iconification? Where’s dockapps? Where’s innovation?

As a hobbyist web dev:

• I want to support niche browsers that might not support WASM such as Dillo or NetSurf.
• Most of the resources out there are Javascript-only.
• I don’t even use scripting most of the time in order to be accessible to text-only, old and minimalist browsers.

I can also imagine that people who are more professional than me in their development require existing JS frameworks, libraries, tutorials and whatever, and were taught in Javascript; there is no reason for them to change. There is also probably no real money in developing WASM applications commercially.

Both words, “extremist” and “right-wing”, have no real hard definitions.

Is being socially conservative right wing? Is supporting capitalism right wing? Is inertia right wing? Is being progressive and, for example, anti-racist and pro-trans left wing? Is socialism left wing? Is only communism left wing?

What about extremism? Is someone an extremist if they condone violence? Is someone an extremist if they seek to change the system fundamentally? Is someone an extremist if their political beliefs are very strongly held, no matter what they might be?

Since these terms have no real definitions, it’s just shit-slinging.

The problem I have with the new shows is that they all feel acted, designed and written like American advertisements or stock videos. It’s hard to describe, but everything is glossy, polished and corporate-designed, and people never act or speak like the people I know in real life; they act and speak like influencers, vloggers and YouTube personalities. It’s eerie and I cannot immerse myself at all. It’s too clean, too bright, not industrial or lived in enough. Even the “relatable” scenes just remind me of what an upper class hipster writer in a glass-front writing room thinks is relatable.

The people and sets on DS9 felt so real, so tangible, so relatable. The episode with Bashir’s parents comes to mind where the interaction between Julian and them was so gut-punchingly accurate to a regular immigrant working class family. The relationship between Ben and Jake. The entire character of Miles. The people in new Trek feel fake, like a Hollywood writer’s idea of a regular person. The politics in DS9 felt genuinely radical, in new Trek they feel shoe-horned in out of an obligation to be progressive with no meat behind it at all, just to market to a target demographic.

Maybe it is because I am European, but DSC/SNW/PIC just feel SO incredibly American. Like Alegria art.

SourceForge went to shit when it was the de-facto location for free and open source software, now GitHub is where Sourceforge used to be. When will people learn?

You might want to contact the licensing team of the GNU project for that, I hear they have good lawyers who offer advice in these situations.
