They tried to say the silver fern flag looked too much like the Isis flag, but that was just bullshit and the real reason it wasn’t an option was NZ rugby had blocked it

I agree, I really don’t like those designs.

I think the main problem was the obvious alternative was the silver fern (on a black flag). But that was ruled out because the All Blacks wanted to keep making money off it. If someone had managed to make a silver fern design that had avoided trademark issues, it might have gained some momentum.

Plus John Key made it quite political, so it made it hard for people who didn’t like him (which was a pretty substantial portion of the population) to support change.

I think we set a record yesterday for the most comments on a daily kōrero thread.

I think COVID is a big factor. This one in Wellington was shut down due to COVID (which is still a thing): https://wossat.nz/

Also often these events are hosted by companies. Times are tough so budgets get cut back.

Hmm OK, maybe I haven’t tried that properly or something… will have to have another go at some point. Thanks.

Yeah, not so worried about the EULA, it’s not like I’m pirating or anything.

so is running Windows inside a VM.

How do you deal with licensing issues if you do this? AFAIK you can’t do it with an OEM Windows license? (or do you just use “alternative methods”)

I can’t help thinking after reading this that HWEN was really a mistake. Fair enough to consult at length with industry, but to effectively let them run the consultation process itself was taking it too far. In the end, the industry exists within the regulatory framework of NZ, and it has to adapt to that.

I really think Labour would have been better off in the long run taking a harder line with the industry (while still showing they are listening), dealing with the blowback, but at least getting something across the line. I guess hindsight is 20/20 though.

Apart from retirement and buying your first home, there are a few (narrow) reasons you can withdraw from KiwiSaver. See: https://www.ird.govt.nz/kiwisaver/kiwisaver-individuals/getting-my-kiwisaver-funds-early

You will probably have to talk to your lawyer though.
