Literally my favorite thing about my college is being able to walk everywhere. Moving back home and realizing I actually need to plan how I get home after drinking was a miserable realization.
Yeah man. It’s frustrating because I want security and freedom coming out of school, and I’m just inherently a very competitive person and high achiever, but those two avenues lead you to like… management consulting, which would be soul-crushing.
I used to have dreams. I wanted to work in genetic engineering, work on rewilding and restoring habitats. But it just feels like in the face of climate change, what does that matter? If you can make a Northern White Rhinoceros from scratch, what does it matter if you can’t make a habitat for it?
So instead I’m gonna get my 30 pieces of silver working 11 hours a day for McKinsey and telling myself this was what I always wanted.
Fuck it, I’ll eat shit to live longer better longer. Assuming it’s like, the microbiota in a capsule and not literally eating shit. The immune function, cognition, and memory benefits are actually super important imo, as someone who’s watched their grandmother descend into Alzheimers. i don’t really care about living to 150, but I’d like to be in good health when I die.
Goddamn, if one of the saddest parts about this whole thing hasn’t been the rampant nihilism. I know many high achieving young undergraduates who openly discuss how nihilistic they are about climate change, and even if they feel some moral calling to work to prevent it, that they might as well get out as much as they can before they die.
Not gonna lie, the red slopes here look like shit in game IMO, but it looks really nice in real life:
