This is about Apple helping build tools for policing. Not about giving over its customers data to police.
I think both parties want them here, just not legally. Even though we’ve “tightened”restrictions on who can legally come in, we have more people than ever crossing right now. My friend worked as a legal translator at the border for a few years during the presidential switch and was saying it’s a massive mess and the dems didn’t functionally change anything from when trump was in power.
My personal theory is that it looks great for unemployment numbers, making our economy look like it’s skating by when it’s on the brink of recession. We get to add hundreds of thousands of jobs without adding any people to the denominator making it look like the labor market is much stronger than it actually is. Also what other people said about having a sub-citizen population who are more willing to put up with shit so they aren’t deported.
I know I’m probably doing it wrong but this is how I feel whenever I write unit tests
I’m still mad they skipped Madison
On my second paid month. Still trying to decide if its worth it. Biggest plus is that its not jammed with sponsored ads and seo’d websites full of garbage matching the search keywords. Downside is that $5 a month just feels like a lot for something that you can almost get for free (outside of the sponsored stuff the results are pretty similar unless you turn up the small web setting)
I’m able to stay under 300 a month by using ff shortcuts to route simple repetitive searches (weather, sports scores, etc.) to ddg while sending the rest to kagi
Gorbachev did stuff like this too. My dad worked in Dupont circle in DC in the late 80s and once the Russian motorcade was driving by as he was walking home from work. They suddenly stopped and there wasnt anyone else nearby so he started getting worried but then a car door opens and Gorbachev gets out with a big smile and just talks to him for like 5 minutes about life and sports and normal small talk things. Said he liked to get to know regular citizens. Then he got back in his imported car and just drove off
