Curious and trying to learn:

How does Linux extend the functionality of a laptop?

I do love me some Toyotas.

Had nice ones, had shitboxes. They all make some monkey brain in me so happy to drive.

No hate on other cars. I respect all builds. But Toyota seems to have some blueprint of my nervous system that makes me have fun in them.

I’m thinking self worth issues.

In another comment you said you are egoist. Fair, but a lot of people with self worth issues cope by essentially talking themselves up (or tearing others down) internally. Can you elaborate on how you feel like you’re “a disgusting egoist”?

As other have said, please do an SSD swap.

If it’s “unbearably slow” that is an indication of drive failure especially on old boot drives. Linux will not fix this.

After that, Cinnamon if they like windows. Gnome if they don’t or don’t care.

Pop os is a great “fire and forget” OS for normal users. I work in a computer shop and have seen tons of not-knowledgable people run it without issues.

I switch back and forth between my 96 Tacoma with 250k miles and my 06 Scion xB with 190k miles. Love them both. Bury me in one of them.

I work in a computer repair shop and we rarely see any Thinkpads of any age.

Far from shit. And they have among the best warranty options in the biz

I’m a new programming student and the single best thing I have done is just start trying to do projects. Sure I have VS Code or Eclipse in one window and maybe Stack Overflow or chatgpt in the other but I slog through it and it has been for more helpful than all the reading and tutorials… I’ve learned far more. I wish I had started this years ago.
