…american; when i learned to stick-and-clutch fourty years ago (driving fifty-year-old used cars) we still called it a standard transmission…

…we like to say that i married my wife because she drove a standard, but when she traded in my last hatchback the manufacturer only offered automatics in the new models; would’ve been a dealbreaker for me but she liked the car…

…circa 1984 i drafted a dense full-page dungeon on ⅒-inch graph paper; it was fairly mega-scale…

…so i’ve been wondering for a long while: do you actually color crayons-on-paper or do you use a digital tool which emulates physical materials incredibly well?..

…ah, they’re so tiny!..i pictured the drawings at an enlarged scale, like newspaper comics, hence my presumption of sharp crayons rather than colored pencils…

…well kudos on your workflow!..i do something similar for my architectural work but i use paint.net

(in fact, i stubbornly refuse “professional” tools unless i can’t do something any other way; i’ve always insisted that if you can’t communicate with a third-grader’s school supplies then your idea’s insufficiently compelling)

…seven months in this case, but the remaining party found her last night and it looks like she might finally have an opportunity to escape next week…

…we’ve been playing together since the holmes set in elementary school so i’ve stuck with the campaign as a gesture of goodwill; our DM means well but i’ve let him know that the campaign’s a poor fit for the character and she intends to leave at an appropriate narrative moment…

…the core fantasy SRD is pretty rudimentary at this stage: just basic fighter/rogue/cleric/wizard classes, a lineage/heritage split for humans, dwarves, elves, and beastkin, 4d6 drop-low with floating modifiers or 32-point buy with modifiers baked into the math, starting talents (feats) with special martial and spellcasting features, and a luck system to replace inspiration…

…spellcasting is split into arcane, divine, primordial, and wyrd circles and ranked by rings instead of levels and monsters feature a doom mechanic, which is sort of a combined luck / recharge feature powering their abilities…

…its primary design goal is to serve as a drop-in replacement for the core D+D rules so it doesn’t set out to radically reinvent fifth-edition mechanics, but rather to streamline the established systems with a light touch, tweaking mechanics for modern gameplay only where it serves that end…

…core fantasy is still very much a work-in-progress, but there’s a complete game loop now to illustrate their intent for the system design…
