Bloody hell this thread is a mess of people from other instances complaining. I wish Lemmy would add the ability to set a community as private to it’s instance. Or only commentable by instance members. If you’re not from this instance, this defederation doesn’t affect you and you should step off. The admins job here is to protect us, the users on this instance. Not appease you.
Thank you for all your communication about how the server is being run. I always feel in good hands here on Blahaj :)
As someone that’s been with them for almost 3 years, this is actually really encouraging to hear. Crypto exchanges fail often, and the exchange rate is usually volatile. I’m glad I get to keep my high savings rate because they don’t take risks. To each their own though!
I don’t think I’ve seen anyone in this thread mention Telecines at all. It’s a machine that captures the video and audio from the film print directly to digital. A lot of good Cam rips were filmed from the projection booth, and could conceivably be done by a projectionist surreptitiously. Telecines though, required a large piece of equipment and time with a print outside of hours. Likely you’d need to be a manager or owner to get away with it, or have their blessing.
I remember the excitement of finding a Telecine for a movie in theatres rather than a Cam. It felt like striking gold. I bet the people releasing those in scene groups would be treated like gods back then.
Also, Telesyncs, which would be labelled TS, is when you have that high quality cam recording and sync it to a direct recording of the audio. The audio often came from the FM microbroadcast that are designed for hearing-aid users.
Don’t even get me started on how audio is included on a 35mm film print. Dolby Digital is an image of a digital signal (basically a QR code) that is between the cog-wheel holes on one side. Good Telecine machines are able to record the full surround track from this. That used to be the absolute best you could get while something was still in theatres. Often better than award copies, they had no stupid watermarks.
I just found this thread, and I’m struggling to find discussion from users of my instance about this. It took me scrolling quite a while to see the reply from our own admin about this. It’s not just about the admins being able to see what comments are from blahaj users. I mean, I think comparing y’all to T_D is fucking bullshit. But like many other blahaj users have said by now, I want to defederate purely based off the brigading of this thread.
I’ve told users from other instances to fuck off out of meta discussions of defederation before and I’ll tell you the same thing.
To all the blahaj users, wasn’t it so refreshing that the admins removed top-level comments from other instance users on the kbin.social defederation post? I think that was the perfect balance, because this thread is a complete fucking shitshow. Not blaming the admins for that, they posted that thread so it would have been easier to keep on top of moderating it.
Why are you asking me?
Also, you’re the person that started this whole mess by comparing a bunch of leftist queer people to T_D. I think that’s an incredibly inflammatory thing to have said, and I’m not surprised their users felt they needed to defend themselves. That doesn’t excuse the worst of what was posted. But I saw a lot of top-level comments from trans users defending the space in a reasonable way.
As for that community, as long as they aren’t linking to posts then what right do you or I have to decide if it should exist? If they want to post screenshots with names censored and have their discussion on their instance, I don’t see any issues with that.
