The r/politics tier lib response to “Biden should target Manchin’s donors, investigate his daughter, etc.” is that it’s unacceptable to engage in political corruption of targeting someone’s family.
It’s just amazing. Everything about Biden, including his family and his rise in the primary, is corrupt. But any wielding of political power is corrupt. The concept of “power” is indistinguishable from “corruption” in their weak minds. If you ask them, “well then how the fuck do we ever win”, the answer is always “go vote”.
Yep. Another example would be that OpenSea and other platforms already mark things as frozen due to being stolen. This is of course, based on one person saying “my NFTs were stolen” and who knows what kind of investigative followup on it. You can still trade the NFTs via direct access to blockchain trades, but that’s so complicated for the average user that they are de facto frozen.
Moxie Marlinspike did a good writeup on the problems with all this NFT shit and correctly pointed out that while it claims to aim for old school decentralization, the same forces and problems that caused the shift to the new platform-driven web have come into play here too.
This will be the problem with every attempt at giving NFTs a use value.
At their core, NFTs are just cryptographically signed identifiers. They only intrinsically have exchange values. Any use value must actually be provided separately. That includes the image itself. In this post, the author demonstrated how much people take “fetching the identified image and rendering it” as intrinsic to the NFT, but it’s, in reality, still just performed separately. (He did so by making an NFT that would look different from various services).
This goes even moreso for more complex use values. Embedding as a Twitter profile picture is one. When video games have NFT items, using the item within the game is a use value provided by the game service.
The only decentralized cryptographically ensured thing that NFTs give you is the ownership of the NFT. No centralized authority can take that away. But they can lock down any use of it.

He used to be a crust punk dirtbag, but yeah he’s been pulled into techbro world to some degree recently. That’s the career trajectory for cryptographers tbh. You can only bash your head against inconceivably complex cryptography problems and attacks for so many years before it’s time to sell out and make some ez money resting on your laurels. Nah, mediterranean diet has a few silly aspects (insisting on whole wheat breads), but it’s absolutely one of the best for overall health (heart, liver, etc.) purposes. It can be difficult to stick to though, so I can see some cope emerging around that, and there is absolutely a ton of truth to the fact that American diets for kids are ABYSMAL compared to European ones a few decades back. The original mediterranean diet was proposed in the 60s after observing mid century diets of primarily Crete but a little Italy and Greek though, so your 30 year figure for “European” benchmark diets is not really relevant.
Yeah I’m in NM and we are about as bad as it gets for state education stats because there’s an incredibly impoverished and forgotten population here that no one cares about or invests in anymore. Not surprised to see this kind of thing.
Not to the degree they push it, and it’s often just better to omit breads and pastas when possible rather than just eat them whole grain. There was some bro science about whole grain being bad a few years ago but I think it was shown to be woo nonsense. Fact is, it’s often just better to keep bread as a sometimes thing, and pretending that whole grain breads redeem it entirely is just bad diet guidance.
