IMO the Force Awakes deserves more credit for killing the series in the cradle. At least the prequel trilogy tried to come up with unique designs and plot points. TFA just hamfisted the Empire and Rebels as reskins and that wrote themselves into a corner. Instead of doing anything new, they were forced to just recycle the aesthetics and themes of the original trilogy. So I’m zero percent surprised that they brought back Palpatine cuz it was the logical extension of soft-rebooting the franchise.
