By calling other countries “dystopian nations”, these people get to feel better about their own countries. Now they can say “See! Look! We’re all bad! The whole world is rotten! It’s not just us!”. This is probably why many westerners refuse to give up their State Dept. narratives even when confronted with massive evidence to the contrary. Also probably why Canadian liberals always love screaming about Uyghurs; it makes them feel better about their own genocide against the Native Americans.

not just us!".

100%. Like, they’ll spend hours every day sharing all kinds of anti-China propaganda and when you push back on some they’ll fall back on other. When you point out the shit US does they’ll all say “we know the US is bad but China is worse”. Like???
