It has nothing to do with sterilization. People can decide to breed if they want, no one is forcing ppl to stop breeding. What antinatalists are saying is that if you bring life into this world, there will ALWAYS be some degree of suffering, then the philosophy goes on to discuss whether suffering is worth procreation. It would help if y’all actually took time to research this from an antinatalist perspective.
I’d rather adopt a kid and try to give them the best life they could have, instead of bringing life into this world. It’s all about reducing and ending suffering. I’m not motivated by some banal shit like passing on my genes or that I need to keep life going to find some meaning in this shit world.
It’s not about getting rid of ppl, it’s about ending procreation. There is no one to get rid of if there’s absolutely no way one can be conscious about life before their birth, or that there even is life. It boils down to
-
Do you want to continue life, which guarantees suffering?
-
Stop procreating and completely end suffering.
But is it not inherently defeatist stance? Current existence (under capitalism) is suffering, therefore won’t procreate? Like, easier to conceive end of the world than capitalism type shit
I do. See, when I bring up antinatalism I get reactionary shit like ppl telling me it’s a stupid and fucked up philosophy. If they’re not gonna listen, who am I to keep forcing the issue onto them? Obviously I’d tell my partner and adopted kid not to procreate, and anyone that’s open to the philosophy, what decision they make is on their own. Me, I’d go happily knowing I was never the cause of prolonged suffering in this world. It’s as simple as that.
