Stalin shouldn’t have stopped at Berlin.

Endless war was what kicked off the Soviet Revolution. Some of Stalin’s smartest plays involved standing back, regrouping, and not getting bogged down in endless guerrilla wars with aimless dissidents.

The entire world was running on fumes, and only the US still had industrial infrastructure with which to launch global war. Stalin did what he had to do in order to secure the revolution in his lifetime. And he succeeded in handing a Soviet bloc that persisted for two full generations after his death. The Soviets made a lot of mistakes, but ending the war in '45 was not one of them.
